The operating theatre is designed with cats in mind. All our machines and equipment were hand picked or specially designed for our small friends. As cats are usually less than 10kg alot of monitors designed for people or dogs are not accurate enough for cats. We do all kinds of operations at The Cat Hospital- from routine neutering and dental work to repairing hernias and removal of thyroid glands. Our operating theatre is visible from the waiting room (through a special glass panel) to allow clients to see some of the equipment needed to care for cats properly.
We use the 'gold standard' anaesthetic combination of propofol and isoflurane as standard in most patients. The inhaled anaesthetic gas and oxygen combination means that our patients usually recover very quickly from procedures. The anaesthetised cats are monitored by a nurse and also by a machine that measures blood pressure, heart rate, ECG and gas levels in the cat's bloodstream.
The Cat Hospital is committed to minimising pain and discomfort in all patients during and after surgery. We use many different combinations of pain relief and premedications to ensure the cat is safe and comfortable. |
